We are academic researchers interested studying visit patterns to Museums, Aquariums, and Zoos, in the United States.
We are seeking assistance in collecting reported visit counts for the year 2019 from 500 museums, 100 zoos, and 100 aquariums across the United States.
We will send you an excel spreadsheet with the name and state of each location we would like visits counts for. Note that these ~700 locations have been pre-selected.
**NOTE: THIS PROJECT MUST BE COMPLETED BY HAND - NO WEBSCRAPING**
Task:
- Search the internet for reported visits to each location in 2019
- If you can find the number of visits, please enter that number in the "visits" column AND paste the link to the website / source from which you obtained that number in the "link" column
- If you cannot find an official reported figure for 2019 after some amount of time (probably no more than 5 minutes or so, but we leave this to your discretion), then leave the "visits" column blank and write "not found" in the notes column.
Some things to keep in mind:
- We are NOT expecting you to find visits counts for all 700 locations. We just need you to find visit counts for whichever of the 700 locations that have posted this information online.
- Many locations may not provide this information online. That is ok, but please try and find counts for as many locations as you can.
- You do not need to enter visits counts for all 700 locations to receive payment. But if nearly all of your results are missing, then you will not receive payment. If you do your best, there should not be a problem.
- We are not interested in visit counts for other years. If you cannot find visits for 2019, please do not provide visits for another year. Just leave it blank and enter "not found" in the "notes" column.
- You MUST provide a link for every visit count you provide.
- We will send this task to multiple freelancers. This is so that we can compare the answers we get from each freelancer to make sure that the visit counts we get are accurate. Provided that the quality of their work is satisfactory, each freelancer will get paid. Again, if you do your best, this should not be a problem.
An additional tip:
- Since we are looking for visits in 2019, it may be easy to find more recent visit data (e.g. for 2023), but not data for 2019. However, if you can find a website that posts visits for a location in 2023, it is possible that you can access an earlier version of that website using the "wayback machine" [login to view URL] This earlier version may have 2019 visits.
- If you find any visits data using the wayback machine, or some other method of accessing archived websites, please note this in the "notes" column.
